Ashville take 6 points in a double game week against Foley Meir and Eccleshall FC!

Ashville started their double game week with a Wednesday night trip to Foley Meir. Ashville came out of the blocks quickly and took the first chance of the game on 2 minutes to take the lead. Tom Davies’s cross was met by Mason Duff who slotted past the Foley keeper. Villa didn’t let up and on 12 minutes doubled their lead through Joel Kelly. A corner played in by Connor Courtnell found Kelly in the box and he tapped home from six yards. Ashville remained on top, creating opportunities but none clear cut. There was still time at the end of the half for the hosts to grab a goal back through Will Saxon. Ashville started the second half well looking to extend their lead. On 65 minutes the impressive Joel Kelly’s strike on the volley was well saved by Foleys keeper. Villa kept the pressure on the home side and it paid off on 75 minutes. Excellent work down the left side by Peter Morgan who’s perfect cross was met on the volley by Kieron Frost to thunder in to the back of the net. The hosts hit straight back on 77 minutes through Jay Finney to set up a tense final 10 minutes but it was Ashville who made the game safe on 88 minutes. Substitute Jack Edwads hit a sweet half volley straight in to the back of the net. A fine midweek performance to set the weekends game up. Attention turned to Saturday’s game versus high flying Eccelshall who came to the Ray Parker stadium on a run of five straight wins. It was a solid start from both in form teams in a half that created very little clear cut chances with both teams cancelling each other out. It took until the 55 minute mark for the first real chance and it was the away side who created it. Jordan Flattley rounder keeper George Huyton but saw his shot come back off the post. The next chance proved to be the match winner. On 58 minutes Joel Kelly played Peter Morgan in to the box and the attackers cross was met by Ben Greenop who fired in to the roof of the net. A tense last ten minutes saw Eccleshall pile on pressure but the fantastic defensive line led by captain Shaun Farrell saw the home side through to full time and a massive three points to move them in to the playoff spots. Ashville face another double game week with a trip to Telford on Wednesday 4th March, 8pm kick off, followed by a home match versus Foley Meir on Saturday 7th March 3pm kick off with the club looking for maximum points to continue the play off push.
