Ashville take a point on the road against in-form rivals.

Ashville kicked off the week with a Tuesday night away trip to playoff rivals New Mills. Ashville started slowly and it was the home side who took the lead on the 11th minute. A direct ball found Saul Henderson who rounded goalkeeper George Huyton to slot in to the net. It took until the 24th minute for Ashville to create their first chance. Joe Haley found himself on the end of a cross in to the box but his header was just the wrong side of the post. The away side got themselves level on 38 minutes. Connor Courtnell’s free kick in to the box found the head of Ben Greenop and he steered it past the New Mills keeper. The away side had all of the control of the second half. On 48 minutes Ben Greenop’s cross found Rodrigo who’s shot came off the outside of the post. The away side continues to create chances and there was a glorious chance to take the lead on 84 minutes. Bisensio Kamilo found himself in acres of space on the right side and as he cut in the box his shot was saved by the New Mills keeper. There was still time and with the referee adding on four additional minutes of stoppage time it was Villa who struck to take the lead in the 93rd minute. Ben Greenop’s great play found Joel Kelly inside the six yard box and the attacking midfielder placed the ball past the keeper in to the back of the net. There was still drama in the game. The referee added a further five minutes to the game and the home team struck in the 98th minute. A contentious free kick was awarded outside Villa’s box and Will Shawcross curled the ball past keeper George Huyton leaving Ashville frustrated with a point.Saturday saw the longest trip of the season to face in form Wolverhampton Casuals with Ashville looking to continue their playoff push. Both teams cancelled each other out in the first 30 minutes with neither side testing the goalkeepers. That changed on 33 minutes and it was the home side who took the lead. A free kick played in to the box found Tom Morris at the back post to head in to the net. Things went from bad to worse and on the stroke of half time the home side doubled their lead. Joe Cuff raced through and finished in to the corner of the net. Ashville came out at the start of the second half with a sense of emergency and on 47 minutes Peter Morgan was fouled inside the box as he rounded the Wolves keeper. Ben Greenop stepped up and clinically scored the penalty. The away side kept pressing for the equaliser. On 61 minutes Greenop made space inside the box, spun and hit a volley that was excellently saved by Kieran Harrison. Despite the away sides attacking endeavour it was the home side who secured the win on 81 minutes. The ball fell to Jack Grimshaw who fired in to the back of the net. A day to forget for Villa. Attention now turns to Saturday with a trip to face Allscott Heath as Ashville look to get their playoff plans back on track.
